Groote Eylandt is the largest island lies off in the east coast of Arnhem Land in the Gulf of Carpentaria & an aboriginal land, situated about 50 kms from the Northern Territory in the north eastern Australia. The Dutch named it as Groote Eylandt meaning Large Island & the richest source of Manganese. This island expands from around 50 kms east to west & around 60 kms north to south covering a total land of 2326 square kilometres. It gives a panoramic view as it is quite low-lying with an average height of 15 meters above sea level.

Reminiscent of the mainland areas to the west and south of the island, its shrubbery is typical tropical savannah woodland with an assortment of mangroves on the coastline, paperbark, stringy-bark and pandanus. For thousands of years the island was colonized by Aborigines who had made their way transversely the Lowrie and Warwick Channels from Arnhem Land and sparingly settled in the island leading undemanding hunter gatherer subsistence. In the east of Groote Eylandt, there lies a picturesque shore line with a prawn processing factory at Bartalumba Bay. This mineral rich island is one of the favourite tourists destination with super unique art sites on the rocks carved by aboriginal purely gives it a refreshing look from the hotel. Ultimate sport fishing experience & a great chance to catch sailfish, marlin tuna, giant trevally, queenfish on the spot along with multi-coloured coral trout!
